What Are EE Scams

EE scams use fake text messages or calls pretending to be from the mobile network provider. Scammers often claim there’s an issue with your bill, account, or SIM card, then ask you to click a link or provide personal banking details. For example, scam messages might state your payment failed or request you to update your information online using a convincing but fraudulent web page.

If you’ve shared details or lost money, you could act immediately:

  • Contact your bank to report unauthorised payments

  • Save all messages, screenshots, and transaction evidence

  • Avoid responding to suspicious messages

Our specialists support users who’ve lost money due to these scams. We’ll review your case in a free consultation, and if eligible, present your claim to your bank or the responsible payment platform.

Even if your refund request was rejected before, our team can often challenge decisions if you weren’t adequately protected during the scam. Why not find out if we can help today?

Common Types of EE Scams

You could encounter various EE scams designed to steal your data or money. These scams often use communication that closely resembles legitimate messages from trusted providers. Key types include:

  • Phishing via SMS (Smishing)
You receive text messages claiming issues with your bill or SIM card. These urge you to click a link, leading to a fake login or payment page. Common messages reference “account suspension”, “unpaid bills”, or new device registered”.

  • Phone Call Scams (Vishing)
Scammers call, pretending to be from customer service, alleging urgent problems with your account. Some ask for security codes, passwords, or for you to transfer money to a “safe account”.

  • Email or Web Portal Fraud
Fake emails or websites direct you to enter login, payment, or banking information. Hosts mimic real branding, but links redirect to malicious sites.

Unfortunately, the methods used by fraudsters can change frequently. Therefore, you should always be suspcious of any unexpected contact from your mobile operator. Instead of clicking on links or responding to calls, it may be better to contact EE directly to ask about any communications received.

That said, if you have lost money to EE scam fraud, please don’t hesitate to contact our specialists.

Case Study: Man Loses Access to Personal Data and £5,000 Following an EE Scam

Late last year, a man targeted by EE scammers lost business files, personal files and photos. Despite responding to an EE to warn him that his personal details had been updated, the scammers still used his information to purchase around £5,000 of gift cards, according to a BBC report.

The scammers somehow managed to request a replacement e-Sim card. Once received and activated, this allowed them to receive authentication messages without the victim being aware.

In this case, it’s not clear how the scammers got hold of his credentials (EE argue they must’ve obtained them elsewhere).

On this occasion, the victim acted quickly and has received his money back from the bank. However, he has lost all the photos stored in his Google Cloud account and other important files.

This case study shows the devastation some scams cause even after a refund has been issued.

Warning Signs of EE Scams

Recognising warning signs of EE scams increases your chances of acting before financial losses occur. Common features include:

  • Urgent requests: Messages use phrases like immediate action required or “suspended service” to prompt a quick response.

  • Requests for sensitive details: Scammers ask for confidential data such as full name, sort code, account number, PIN, or passwords, often by impersonating customer support.

  • Suspicious links: Texts or emails contain links that, once clicked, lead to fake EE login pages or payment forms that capture information.

  • Unexpected contact details: Messages or calls may come from unfamiliar email addresses or phone numbers, sometimes masked to look like genuine EE details.

  • Spelling or grammar issues: Poor language or unprofessional formatting signals a fraudulent source.

Messages often claim there’s a problem with your bill, account access suspended, or request a “refund claim”. Attachments or clickable prompts frequently redirect you to forged web portals mimicking EE. Phone calls involve callers who follow rigid scripts and escalate urgency if you hesitate.

Importantly, if you notice these warning signs, don’t share details or click links. Instead, you should report the scam to EE so that they can try to stop others from being affected.

Will I Receive a Refund After an EE Scam

Usually, the best way to obtain a refund following a mobile network scam is from your bank or whoever processed the payment to the fraudster.

New reimbursement protections mean that EE scam refunds from your bank may be possible if:

  • You were the innocent victim of a scam and you lost money.

  • You acted diligently to try to ensure that you weren’t being scammed.

  • When you realised what had happened, you contacted your bank or payment processor straight away.

However, we have heard many cases where scam victims have been told they won’t be refunded. If you find yourself in this position, please feel free to call.

What To Do If The Refund Is Refused

If your bank or card provider refuses your refund after an EE scam, several steps can increase your chance of recovering your money:

  • Request Written Reasons
Ask your bank for a written explanation if they refused your refund; this helps our specialists assess your case accurately.

  • Seek a Second Opinion
Contacting the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) could result in an investigation. If successful, your bank may be told to refund you.

  • Speak to Our Specialists
If you don’t get a refund, you have nothing to lose by contacting us. We have a team of specialists who understand your rights. If they spot a flaw in the way your bank handled your case, they could present a case requesting a full refund of your losses.

Please call today if you have been unable to secure a refund. We are here to help, and may be able to recover money on your behalf.
