Revolut Bank Fraud
As with any bank, Revolut users face fraud risks and can be targeted by scammers. As well as trying to exploit vulnerabilities in the Revolut app, fraudsters concentrate on user behaviour to try to access accounts and funds. Awareness of these tactics is essential for protecting your finances.
As you’ll read throughout this article, scammers targeting Revolut customers will try a variety of different tactics to get access to their money. These include phishing emails, investment scams and automated push payments (or APP scams).
It is therefore vital that you stay aware whenever you’re asked to make a payment, send money or move money to another account. The most important thing is to report fraud or any type of bank fraud to Revolut’s fraud department as soon as you become aware of it. By doing so, you may be entitled to a refund of any money lost.
If that doesn’t help you to get your money back, you could speak with one of our specialists. Wherever we can, we’ll try to recover your money on your behalf, so please get in touch.

Case Study: Medical Consultant Loses £39,000 in Revolut Scam
An article in the BBC where multiple Revolut customers suggested they’d been scammed, highlighted one particular case. An NHS consultant is said to have lost £39k in the elaborate fraud. During calls from other supposed banks and credit card companies, the victim was told to transfer funds into his Revolut bank account. Initially, he was sceptical, but the scammer persisted and convinced him to move the money.
Finally, the scammer told the doctor to remove the Revolut app from his phone for additional security. Not realising this would stop any alerts, the victim followed the instructions. Upon reinstalling the app, he then noticed that £39,000 had been withdrawn.
The report suggests that the bank refused to refund any money. The victim had asked the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) to investigate, but, at the time of writing, the outcome of the complaint is not known.

5 Signs That You've Been Scammed
signs that a scammer may be targetting your Revolut account
-
Unauthorised Transactions in Your Account
Check for any withdrawals or payments you don’t recognise. Fraudsters may process small amounts first to see if the transaction goes unnoticed before larger sums are taken. -
Blocked or Restricted Account Access
Losing access to your Revolut account without warning might indicate a scam, especially if it follows a suspicious request for your login credentials or personal data. -
Unexpected Messages from Unknown Contacts
Receiving unsolicited SMS or emails claiming to be from Revolut, especially ones requesting sensitive data or containing suspicious links, often signals phishing attempts. -
Requests for Immediate Payments or Personal Information
Scammers frequently create urgency by demanding that you act instantly. For example, they might claim your account is compromised and request verification details or payments to “secure it.” -
Unusual Changes in Account or Contact Information
Any unfamiliar updates, such as changes to your linked phone number or email, could indicate unauthorised access resulting from a SIM-swap attack or account takeover.
Once again, if you are worried that you are being scammed, you must report your concerns to Revolut immediately. Failure to do so could mean you’re not entitled to claim a refund.
Will Revolut Refund Scammed Money?
Revolut has an APP refund policy, which means you could receive a refund if you’ve been scammed. However, this will only happen if:
-
You conducted basis checks prior to payment.
-
You acted promptly to report the scam to Revolut.
-
Furthermore, you allow the claim to be reported to the police.
-
You share all information about the scam during the investigation.
However, Revolut could refuse to refund you if they believe you failed to spot the warning signs or ignored alerts raised during the money transfer.
Can I Do Anything If Revolut Doesn't Refund Me?
If you are at the point where Revolut has decided that you won’t be refunded, there are still options open to you. You could:
-
Contact Revolut again and ask for its findings to be sent to you in writing.
-
Raise a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman.
